Dear Readers of PCN,
As we embark on this amazing journey together filled with wonder, joy,
disappointment, self-sacrifice, hope, faith, long suffering and trials;
I can not help but wonder how many times do we talk about love? If I say
"I love you" to a friend, what does that mean? How would they
take it? Would they say it back? Do they feel the same way? All these thoughts
flutter our minds with saying 3 simple words to just friends! Jesus said
that we should love our neighbors. Did He mean by just showing love? Or
do we, can we, should we say "I love you"? Is it strange to say
I love you to our acquaints? Paul stated how much he loved many groups
of people in the church and in the fellowship of Christ in his letters.
He always found a way to let them know that they were his brothers and
sisters in Christ and for that bond he loved them. Why have we stopped
saying it to our friends and families at church? Are we afraid people
will look at us differently? We know for God so loved... and that we love
because He first loved us. So let us be examples to all others by saying
"I love you!" Is it not a commandment form God? Readers in this
issue I pray that you feel the love that was put into it because those
who work on it have gone through a lot to show that they love you. And
that I LOVE YOU! Yes I said it and my heart couldn't be happier. Happy reading!
Love Your Sister in Christ,

1809: During this month that celebrates Black culture and love, it is interesting that over 2 centuries ago African American's where not legally married because the states did not recognize it as a binding and legitimate union. In 1809 however, the state of New York did, paving the way for other states to follow suit.
1909:On February 12 The National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP) was formed.
2009: US News & World Report voted Oakwood University one of the best undergraduate
colleges!

"The chief champion of the cause was Ellen White. In 1891, she delivered
a historic presentation entitled "Our Duty to the Colored People." (click on the title to see the entire article that can be found online
at Oakwood University) Her words were instrumental in influencing her son James Edson White to
dedicate his efforts to the work among Black people in the South.
Long
before the Adventist Church was formed, William Ellis Foy, a Black
minister, received visions. As a girl, Ellen White heard Foy speak in
Portland, Maine, and later talked with him after receiving her first
visions. She had a copy of Foy's four visions and noted, "It was
remarkable testimony that he bore."
Black
people in the Millerite movement played a significant part in the
preaching of the soon coming of Christ. Prominent ministers such as
William Still, Charles Bowles, William Foy, and John Lewis were
coworkers with Millerite leaders.
The
first Black Adventist ordained minister was Charles Kinney, born a
slave in Richmond, Virginia. It was the preaching of Ellen White and
James Loughborough in Reno, Nevada, that convinced him to become a
Seventh-day Adventist. He suggested the concept of Black conferences as
a way to work more effectively among Black people, after he confronted
efforts to segregate him and his members at his camp meeting ordination
service in 1878.
Former baptist preacher Harry Lowe established the first Black Adventist church in 1883 at Edgefield Junction, Tennessee."

Being loving. What does that really mean? We know that in the Old Testament the first four commandments are dealing with the our relationship with God. How we should interact with Him because sin had deaden our spiritual senses. God laid out His law in stone because in essential that is what our hearts had become. In the beginning His law was written in our hearts and in our minds. But just as Pharaoh's heart had harden against the Lord, so did ours when it came to His law. These are all explained in detail in Exodus the 20th chapter verses 2-11. The second half of the commandments are dealing with our relationship with our fellow human beings; our neighbor. How far from grace had we fallen that the Lord had to point out that it was wrong for us to kill, steal, lie and to be envious? But like little children who need to learn a lesson, God literarily spelled it out for us in Exodus 20: 12-17.
But as humans we always attempt to go to the extreme and try to "better"
God's law in accordance to us. And so His Son came to reiterate what the
Father had said before the dawn of creation:
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with
all your mind and with all your strength.' 31The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'There is no commandment greater than these. Mark12: 30 - 31
Being loving includes loving God, ourselves and our neighbor. The entire Bible talks about a God so loving that He waits upon His creation to realize their faults and turn back to Him. Jonah knew what kind of God He served, and that was why he did not want to preach the good word to the Ninevehvites:
..."O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That
is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity." Jonah 4: 2
People often talk about that the God of the Old Testament was hard and mean. But look how Jonah describes Him here. We know what John 3:16 says but do we know why? Being Loving is the nature of God; shouldn't we try to exemplify our Father? |
You live in a civilized society. Some one would never drag you out of your
church on the Sabbath against your will. I mean that would go against the
Constitution and your Bill of Rights! Right? Your whole life you heard
about preserving "religious liberty", the Blue Sunday Law, Job's
time of trouble, but what does it mean to you? In fact it has nothing to
do with you. You are protected from crazy idealist who believe that there
should be only one unified day of worship. Religion isn't that big of a
deal. People don't lose their lives over it anymore. This is the new Millennium!
Wars are not raged in the name of religion any more either. That was such
an Old Testament time warp, right? Of course! No one can make anyone change
their day of worship, right? What government would or even could make entire
nations choose one day to worship and force it upon everyone? That isn't
possible. People have choices and make their own decisions. How crazy and
unrealistic would it be for a ruler to force an entire army to be "baptized"
for political and or religious reasons! Or for people to be chased out
of their familiar area and into strange places. This could never happen.
Could it?

I saw her weeping for the one

When she gave him up, she then had none. And though I had a pair I took
him as mine own son.
His voice was silent His dreams where rare, and still He spoke not to me but he who'd be my heir.
Thrice times He called and thrice times I was awoken. Not by His sound
but by His token.
Disaster was promised to me and mine, for I had not dealt properly with
those who irreverently dined.
For 2 scores I reigned then died. Yet for the death of 2 sons I did not

|
| Why does the Bible have to tell Husbands to love their Wives? - Questions & Answers with Thaddues Jackson |
|
Why the bible admonishes husbands to love their wives:
“Many husbands do not sufficiently understand and appreciate the cares
and perplexities which their wives endure, generally confined to an unceasing
round of household duties. They frequently come to their homes with clouded
brows, bringing no sunshine to the family circle. If the meals are not
on time, the tired wife, who is family house keeper, nurse, cook, and housemaid,
all in one, is greeted with faultfinding. The exacting husband may condescend
to take the worrying child from the weary arms of its mother that her arrangements
for the family meal may be hastened; he does not pause to consider how
many hours the mother has endured the little one’s fretfulness, but calls
out impatiently, “Here mother, take your child.” Is he under natural obligation
to patiently bear his part of the burden of rearing his children?” (Adventist
Home pp. 224-225) Of course, we live in a society today where it is popular
for both spouses to work outside of the home, but the point is well taken
about husbands who need to help out at home too.
Husbands love your wives!
Ephesians 5: 25 says, “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved
the church, and gave himself for it;” “There is a resemblance of Christ’s
authority over the church in that superiority and headship which God has
appointed to the husband. Paul also says that Christ’s authority is exercised
over the church for the saving of her from evil, and supplying of her with
everything good for her. In like manner should the husband be employed
for the protection and comfort of his spouse; and therefore she should
cheerfully submit herself unto him. Therefore as the church is subject
to Christ (Ephesians 5:24), with cheerfulness, fidelity and with humility,
so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything lawful and consistent
with the duty of God.” (Matthew Henry Commentary p. 2315)
Husbands love your wives!
Ephesians 5: 28 and 29 says,
“So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife
loveth himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and
cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church.”
No man has ever hated himself however deformed or whatever his
imperfections might be; instead, he nourishes and cherishes it. He uses himself
with a great deal of care and tenderness, and is industrious to supply himself
with everything convenient or good for him, with food and clothing, etc.
Husbands love your wives!
There is no stronger bond on earth than that of the family which begins
with the unity and connection of man and wife. God uses the marriage relationship
to be an ever living example of the relationship he has with his church
and it begins with husbands loving their wives as God first loved us. God
wants man to represent him. He wants how a man treats his wife to be a
daily reminder of how God treats us. He wants married men to show the world
how much God loves us through their loving relationships with their wives.
That’s why I admonish all husbands to think of marriage like a first rate
hotel: expensive, but worth it. Never go to bed mad. Stay up and fight.
(That is, fight to keep the fire of love and communication burning). I
always say, “The honeymoon is never over.” Make sure yours never ends.
During this season of love, I challenge all married men to listen to your
wives if you want your relationship to grow. My wife says I never listen
to her. At least I think that’s what she said.
Husbands love your wives!

.The January Issue of PCN, featured Corey Williams the Choir director for
Anointed Praise. Anointed Praise is doing mighty things in the name of
the Lord and they are ready to shoulder on the responsibility that cones
with glorifying and edifying the work and church of God. This month's Issue
is an in depth look at how AP works from the inside. Eddie Ashley is not
just one of the Executive Officers of AP but he is the elected President
of this Patmos Musical Ministry. From Winning the Zora Neal Hurston Festival's
Battle of the Bands to traveling around the country; AP is doing big things
with God at their side.

- Secretary – Kimberly Kelly
- Head Communications – Maximus Cherenfant
- Social Committee Chair – Denigua Boone
- Treasurer – Frederick Hidalgo
- Chaplin – Christopher Smith
- Assistant Chaplin – Patrushka Johnson
- Assistant Communications – Ashton Stodghil
- Assistant Treasurer – David Gill
- Assistant Secretary – Chelsea Browne
- Public Relations Director – Melody Hidalgo
...The Following is an Interview between the President of Anointed Praise,
Eddie Ashley, and PCN:
PCN: How did the election process go; as far as you guys being elected
Executive officers?
EA: Well first the names where nominated, that we thought where best for each
position and then we voted on the top three names
PCN: Congratulations on winning the Zora Neal Hurston Festival Battle of the Bands! What plans do guys have for 2009?
EA: Thank you! We will be attending the Bobby Jones Gospel Hour; we have been invited to many different places such as Macon Georgia; we also have been invited to attend Oakwood University's Alumni weekend, and many more.
PCN: How did you guys get started in AP? Who roped you in?
EA: Well when I first moved down here from Georgia Corey asked me to join
but I just wasn't ready. Then as some time went by there was a song [God Is] that really touched me and I knew I wanted to be apart of this.
PCN: How is it really
having Corey as your choir director?
EA: EXCELLENT! He is really energetic. Any one who sees him up there can
see that. He really treats us as his kids. He keeps us focus and he's a
really good role model for us. Basically he's really good at what he does.
He's the best.
PCN: Heard you guys recorded a CD a while back. How was that experience?
EA: Yes they did. I however at that time was not part of Anointed Praise.
I heard it was awesome.
PCN:Okay, as CEO’s of AP what exactly is your job and relationship as it pertains to the group, yourselves and God?
EA: Well in my eyes I see myself as an Assistant Director. So if the Director
is not there I feel as if it is my responsibility to get the group settled
and bring order. I take it upon myself to take over issues if he is not
there at that time. And a lot of the members respect me so it isn't that
hard to get things going. To myself and God well, it's a Big Thing. I mean
first off to be chosen from over 90 something kids is a blessing. It is
awesome and to know that they have faith in me really helps focus and know
that with God I can do this.
PCN:How seriously are you taking this?
EA: Very seriously. Over 100 percent. We all are, but this is personal to
me and I see it as being able to make a difference and help others. I am
also the president of our Choir robes. My mother and I pretty much stepped
up and took charge of that. Those are some of the things that we are doing. PCN: Okay it is February and every where people are preparing for the biggest “love” weekend of the year. Being Young Adult in this millennium what does “Love” really mean to you?
EA: Love is a strong word. It should not be tossed around all the time. It
starts to lose it's meaning and loses it's value. Love can not just be
said. It has to be shown. In your actions and how you interact with those
around you.
PCN thanks Anointed Praise's Executive Officers for taking their time out
and speaking with us!

Live as if you were

-Mahatma Gandhi
Each of us has goals and dreams
that we would like to achieve. Too often, we are asked “What do you want to be
when you grow up” or “What are your goals for the next five years?” Five years
is approximately 1826 days. If you don’t have short-term goals and if you
aren’t practicing character-building behaviors, you will find yourself 1826
days older and perplexed as to where the time went. You’ll wonder how your life
passed right before your eyes.
The whole
purpose of the worksheet/exercise is to examine short-term and long-term goals
and discuss establishing positive, character-building traits. It is extremely
important to realize at a very early age that in order to achieve your goals
and dreams, you must be determined, have follow through, and seek God in all of
your endeavors.
List three goals that you have for the next six months:

List three goals that you have for the next seven to twelve
months:

List three goals that you have for the next thirteen to
eighteen months:

Review the goals that you have listed, and think about
character traits that you must currently have or plan to acquire in order to
achieve your goals and dreams, i.e., determined, studious, artistic, etc.:

The purpose to life
is a life of purpose.
-Robert Byrne
When Pastor Nelson came for Youth
Week of Prayer of 2007, he talked about walking in your Kingdom purpose. He
said that we must pray and ask God to show us his will for our lives. At the
end of the day, when all is said and done, we will have to account for our
actions and behaviors on this earth. We will all have to answer to whether we
were walking in our Kingdom purpose. We have to answer to using or neglecting
the talents and gifts that God has given each of us. Let our prayer be that we
not only walk in our Kingdom purpose and rep THE Kingdom, but that one day, we
can live forever in our Father’s Kingdom.

Last month we talked about living our lives for God,
and ways that might enhance or interfere with this goal. This month, we will
begin to examine some data on cancer, what causes it, and how to avoid it taking
over our lives.
...ffff.....Some
Information about the Big “C" Word
...fffff.Cancer Update from John Hopkins:
1.
Every person has cancer cells in
the body. These cancer cells do not show up
in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors
tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies
after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer
cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2.
Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3.
When the person's immune system is strong, the cancer cells will be
destroyed
and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.
4.
When a person
has cancer, it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These
could be due to genetic, environmental, food and
lifestyle
factors.
5.
To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, change diet and includesupplements
which can strengthen the immune system.
6.
Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also
destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal
tract, etc., and can cause organ damage to the liver, kidneys, heart, lungs,
etc.
7.
Radiation--while destroying cancer cells--also burns, scars and damages healthy
cells, tissues, and organs.
8.
Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumorsize. However,
prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more
tumor destruction.
9.
When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation,
the
immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can
succumb
to various kinds of infections and complications.
Tune in next month to find out how to Starve
Cancer Cells. May God's blessing be yours!

“Unconditional Love”
........“For God so Loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
........ . ... .. ... . ........ ............John 3:16 KJV
For the month of February we
celebrate black history and valentines. As I think about love I think back to
my ancestors. These individual paved the way so that one day their children and
grand children would be able to sit anywhere on the bus, or walk through the
front door of any restaurant to be served. In addition, these individual paved
the way so that their children could have good education.
Women paved the way so that their daughters and grand-daughters would be
able to vote. Men and women were killed so that their children and grandchildren
would have better opportunities than them. Men and women continued
to sing songs of victory as they took lashes on their backs that would
last a lifetime. While their backs ached, their hearts were smiling knowing
that someday their great great grandchildren would be free one day. God
loved us so much that He sent His only begotten Son with lashes on His
body also, to die so that we may have eternal life. Now, that's unconditional
LOVE.
For the month of February we
celebrate black history and valentines. I wanted to share a poem with you that
talks about unconditional love written by Marcell Billinhurst.
UNCONDITIONAL
LOVE
Marcell Billinghurst
Love is patient, Love is kind
Love is learning to be blind.
To others faults, it keeps no score,
Love is learning much much more.
Love protects and always trusts,
Perseverance is a must.
Love is facing stormy weather,
Hand in hand we walk together.
Love is honest, not deceiving,
In God and others we keep believing.
Love is learning to forgive
As Jesus taught us how to live.
True love we find will not forsake
But always gives more than it takes.
Love is learning to rejoice
In all we face, it is our choice.
We are learning the meaning of love
As give to us by God above.
“Love and be Loved”
