Dear Readers of PCN,
The Holiday Season has crouched up upon us. We have had our ups and downs,
our wonderful Savior has seen us all the way. He is the reason for the
season. He is the reason why we wake up every day and take a deep breath
and move on. When we gather around our loved ones and enjoy the food that
He has so willingly provided. We say thanks over our food, thanks for the
day but do we really stop and thank the Lord for ALL that He has provided
for us? He has given us all we need. Do recall His word in Matthew when
He told us to seek first His kingdom and everything will be added unto
us.
We need not worry about what tomorrow will bring for it is not promised. All we can count on is the Strength of the Lord and His strength is made perfect in our weakness.
So it's okay to go ahead and not be strong all the time. He has you and
will never let you go!
My prayer for you is that during this Holiday Season you will take the
time to show those around you how you feel about them and do not forget
to tell the Master thank-you for His goodness to you!
Happy Holidays!
Sincerely Your Sister in Christ,

The Flu and You -Getta, RN
image from newzar.wordpress.com
During this flu season there is one thing on everyone’s mind: SWINE FLU!
"The death rate...continues to climb."
There
is no doubt that this epidemic has everyone talking about what
President Obama has now considered a ‘National Emergency’ for H1N1.
During
the week of October 18 – 24, 2009, Flu activity is now widespread in 48
states and has forced 315 schools to temporarily shut down. The death
rate for this strand of influenza continues to climb.
Emergency warning signs combined with symptoms of the flu that should trigger you to seek urgent medical care include:
In children:
* Fast breathing or trouble breathing
* Bluish skin color
* Not waking up or not interacting
* Fever with rash
In adults:
* Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
* Confusion
* Sudden dizziness
*Severe or persistent vomiting
"WASH YOUR HANDS!"
PROTECT YOURSELF:
According
to the CDC influenza is spread mainly from person-to-person through
coughing or sneezing of an infected person. So, cover your nose and
mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If a tissue isn’t
accessible cough or sneeze into the sleeve of your shirt.
WASH
YOUR HANDS! Washing your hands is one of the best ways to avoid getting
sick and spreading illness. So, wash your hands with soap and water
vigorously for 20 seconds. If you’re unable to get to a sink, sanitize
your hands with an alcohol-based product and wait till they dry before
touching the objects around you.
Try
to avoid close contact with sick people. And if you are sick with
flu-like symptoms the CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24
hours after your fever is gone.
Finally the best protection that the CDC feels will protect us against the flu this season is to get vaccinated.

Holiday Pounds: Eat! Snack! Drink! Shop!
-Getta, RN
images from google
Here are some helpful tips to help you avoid packing on some extra holiday pounds:
* EAT UP! There is an old German proverb that says;
“Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.”
According
to WebMD, not only does eating breakfast give you energy for the day
but one of its health benefits includes weight control.
* SNACK! Have a healthy
low-fat snack prior to attending a dinner party. This will help curb
your appetite so that you can have willpower to avoid filling up your
plate.
* DRINK! Oprah’s trainer, Bob Greene suggests that
drinking
a glass of delicious water when you wake up, before and during meals
will make you feel fuller without actually eating.
* Shop Til You Drop, pounds that is...
Put
on your exercise shoes and head to the mall. Making a conscious effort
to take longer strides while walking, or just walking a little faster
than normal while you shop, will help burn calories.
Remember to keep away those extra holiday pounds: Eat, Snack, Drink and Shop.
Happy Holidays!

The Joshua Caleb Mission: Crossing
Over From Debt to Freedom |
To Our Internet Viewing Family and Friends:
We think of you as part of our extended family and are pleased that you choose to join us in worship each week via the internet. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a very serious financial situation and we need to ask for your help. The problem is that we are strapped with such large monthly mortgage payments, that it is affecting our ability to perform our true mission, which is ministry and service. The Lord has made it very clear to us that we must break the strangle hold of this debt immediately, and He has given us a specific plan for how to do it. By following His plan, and with the help of our friends and extended family, we can be completely out of debt in only two (2) years!
The plan that He has shown us is to invite 1000 people to join with us
in being a part of this modern day miracle that He is preparing to do.
We are asking 1000 people to pledge $125 per month for the next 24
months. Some people prefer to write one check up front for $3000, as
opposed to writing smaller checks each month. Either way is perfectly
fine. We are asking for these pledges to be made prior to December 26th
which is the day that we are trying to raise $3,000,000 in pledges to
completely eliminate our debt over the next 24 month period. We believe
that the Lord can do a modern day Wilderness Sanctuary Miracle, where
Moses had to tell the people to STOP giving because they had all that
they needed. If we have 2000 people participate then it will only take
us 12 months to completely eliminate our debt. Our pledge is when the
$3,000,000 has been received, we will return any additional funds that
come in and we will notify each person to cease giving to this program
and re-direct their funds to another ministry in need.
Would you please consider being one of the 1000 people that the Lord is going to work through to accomplish this modern day miracle? If so, please complete the online pledge card and hit the send button so that we can include your pledge in the December 26th count. We know that the Lord has a very special blessing in store for those who help HIS church in this time of need. The check each month or the one time check should be made payable to Patmos Chapel DE (debt elimination) and returned along with the numbered
coupon for that month from the Pledge Coupon sheet to Patmos Chapel SDA
Church, P.O. Box 656, Winter Park, FL 32790–656
Please prayerfully consider being one of God’s army of 1000 as we wage war against the financial foe that is holding us captive. We serve a God who desires to set the captives free! We humbly ask for your help and know that the Lord has a special blessing in store for each person who helps us.
Thank you and may God’s richest blessings be upon you.
Sincerely,

Pastor Samuel M. Dade, Jr.
on behalf of
The Patmos Chapel SDA Church Family

Choices - Tavares Williams
|
During this holiday season we all recall that after all the holiday indulgences
what comes next: NYR or New Years Resolutions. Well NYR really is just
a fancy title on a shorter word: Choices. It's about making the choices
that impact our lives and others' everyday. Below is a brief exert from
Tavares Williams, a young adult who reminces about how his choices affect
his life and his relationship with God.
A teacher of mine once told me that there are three things in life that
every person on earth can’t avoid. The first is to be born, the second
is to die and last but not least is inevitable, to make choices.
“if you think you will fail, then you’ll fail”
She
continued to tell us that “if you think you will fail, then you’ll
fail”. There was no extra encouragement or words of wisdom, that was
just it. At first I thought she was a nut bag but as the years went on
I couldn’t agree with her more, now that I’m a bit older. Who, or what
rather determines what we’ll make of ourselves based on the decisions
we make? I personally believe that 99.9% of the time we only have
ourselves to blame for something not going the right way. There’s
nothing in this world that you can’t do, when you believe in yourself
and the decisions that affect your daily living.
I was so filled with rage just by being around my surroundings and I thought life wasn’t fair.
Now
one of the most important decisions I’ve ever made was taking the
opportunity to be shipped away to a boarding high school at 14. I was
so filled with rage just by being around my surroundings and I thought
life wasn’t fair.
I needed to figure out who the hell I was.
I
needed an attitude adjustment, anger management, God, a friend and I
needed to figure out who the hell I was. I thought was headed for years
of misery and I knew I didn’t want to feel that way.
So
when the opportunity presented itself I jumped at the chance to get out
of, what I thought at that time, a modern day hell on earth. I knew it
would be great for me to get away only because I would be experiencing
a new environment with new people.
" Little did she know God was the last thing on my mind..."
It
was a clean slate for me and no one, other than myself, predetermined
what would come out of it. Now since it was a Christian school I don’t
think too many people were saddened that I was going away, especially
my mom. Little did she know God was the last thing on my mind at that
point in time. While I struggled in the beginning, things really turned
around once I got settled and started to figure out who I was. I also
can’t tell you what kind of person I’d be or where I’d be in life right
now if I hadn’t made the choice to get out of, what was to me, a
stressful situation.
" while it took me a bit longer than I expected, I found solidarity in my
faith."
I
had to make the adjustments that I knew were considered necessary in
order for me to better myself. In doing so I learned to control my
temper, find my creative talents, formed some incredible and
unbreakable relationships and while it took me a bit longer than I
expected, I found solidarity in my faith.
So
it was only natural that I started to feel better about myself. There
would be time I’d walk down the hallways and just be in my own goofy
world, which I could tell people slightly envied. Making a decision to
leave home so early and learn some life lessons without anyone telling
me what would happen made me stronger. I created my own foundation of
reliability for myself. And while I tried and failed and made a
multitude of mistakes, I was able to brush it off and lift myself back
up and work harder for what I needed.
Of
course my situation may not seem as serious or as intense as other
choices individuals have had to make throughout the course of their
lives this far.
Fact of the matter is, God gave me the option to make my own choices while
being with me every step of the way...
